This is the section where we showcase the people, the places and the products we like and this time round we’d like to draw attention to Gary McKinnon who is fighting the battle of his life to avoid a 'fast track' extradition to America.
For those that don't know, Gary was indicted by a US court in 2002, accused of 'hacking' into over 90 US military computer systems from the UK. Gary, who suffers from Asperger syndrome - a form of Autism, admits hacking but maintains he was looking for evidence of alien life.
The current Extradition Act (2003) is grossly unfair in that it allows the US to extradite Brits from this country, but doesn’t allow the UK to extradite US citizens! If this all goes ahead as it stands and Gary is convicted in the US he faces up to 60 years in a high security prison!
A massive campaign is underway, which is calling on our new Government to step in and do all that it can to make sure that Gary faces his charges here in a British court, and to serve and sentence - if he is found guilty - in a British prison.
